Birdi Systems, Inc. provided planning, pre-design, and program development services for Los Angeles World Airports’ (LAWA) $100 million System Technology Integration (STI) program.  The project involved the implementation of security-related technologies at LAWA’s four airports–Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Ontario International Airport (ONT), Van Nuys General Aviation Airport (VNY), and Palmdale Airport (PMD).  In our efforts, we planned and assessed the application of the following security systems at LAWA’s four airports:

  • Access Control and Alarm Monitoring
  • Biometrics
  • Perimeter Intrusion Detection
  • Closed Circuit Television
  • Video Management
  • Video Analytics
  • Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR)
  • Acoustic Gunshot Detection
  • Under Vehicle Surveillance Systems
  • Emergency Paging
  • Fire & Life Safety
  • Public Safety Computer-Aided Dispatch and Related Systems
  • Police Field Reporting and Records Management Systems
  • Joint Operations / Agency Interoperability
  • Command & Control (ICS/NIMS)
  • Security System Integration
  • Airport Security Operations Center (ASOC)
  • Mobile Communications

System plans and designs were conceptualized after a thorough survey of existing facility conditions.  This project required that we apply our knowledge of federal regulations, industry standards, and systems engineering.  Our work addressed all aspects of airport security, including terminal, cargo, airside, landside, and perimeter security.
